David Villa is saying goodbye to The Bronx.
The Spanish World Cup winner will not be returning to New York City FC next season, the club announced Wednesday, as Villa has decided to continue his career elsewhere.
Villa, who turns 37 next week, scored 77 goals across 117 regular-season games in four seasons at NYCFC. He ends his MLS career as one of the league’s best-ever Designated Players and undoubtedly NYCFC’s best since signing as the club’s first-ever player in 2014.
“My experience here was amazing. It gave me everything as a soccer player, as a person, and as a family man.
