It’s every American soccer player’s dream: represent your country internationally against the world’s best. For Ben Sweat, that dream is now a reality.
In the 75th minute of the USMNT’s friendly against Colombia, Sweat entered the game in place of Antonee Robinson and logged his first ever cap with the United States national team.
Fellow New York City FC defender Sebastien Ibeagha’s reaction pretty much defines what we all feel.
For Sweat, this experience definitely brought him full circle. The international contest — which ended as a 4-2 win in favor of Colombia — took place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida; the same place where Sweat played while with the University of South Florida from 2010 to 2013.
