A Red Bulls smart move and sub put away NYCFC

Chris Armas, serving as Red Bulls coach with head man Jesse Marsch on a one-game suspension, needed to make a subtle change.

Wednesday’s game against New York City FC was scoreless at halftime, and while Armas’ squad had no problems moving the ball into attacking position in the first half, they Red Bulls hadn’t been able to take advantage of their opportunities. So Armas turned to substitute Daniel Royer, who immediately changed the game with his penetrating runs to keep the Red Bulls’ residence permanently in the NYCFC defensive zone.

Then, in the 66th minute, Royer made the play that won the game.
