Will Smith's killer Cardell Hayes was sentenced Thursday (April 20) to serve 25 years in prison for the April 2016 double shooting that took the life of the former Saints defensive lineman and left Smith's wife Racquel injured.
Hayes, 29, stood silently after the sentence was imposed by Criminal District Judge Camille Buras following his Dec. 11 convictions for manslaughter and attempted manslaughter.
A sentencing range of 20 to 60 years was available to Buras, based on state statutes enhancing the penalties because a firearm was used during the road-rage confrontation in the Lower Garden District on April 9, 2016.
