The New Orleans Saints are enjoying some smooth sailing right now. Franchise quarterback Drew Brees has returned from his thumb injury, and he sent the team into their bye week with a big win over the Arizona Cardinals. That victory capped off a six-game winning streak in which backup passer Teddy Bridgewater took the reins, winning all five of his starts (including tough road games with the Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears). For now, it’s clear skies in New Orleans.
But the future isn’t quite so easy to navigate. Both Brees and Bridgewater are headed for unrestricted free agency in March 2020 (just four months away); at the same time, versatile reserve Taysom Hill is scheduled to be a restricted free agent (which means the Saints can keep him on a one-year contract worth around $4.
