The New Orleans Saints churned their practice squad on Wednesday by waiving safety Trae Elston and signing rookie linebacker Andrew Dowell. Dowell first entered the NFL by signing with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent; before that, he started three years for the Michigan State Spartans at outside linebacker, recording 260 total tackles (15 for loss of yards). Amie Just of Nola.com first reported Dowell’s signing.
This followed a group workout for free agent linebackers on Tuesday. New Orleans reportedly tried out Dowell, Devante Bond, Alvin Jones, and Curtis Akins, who we wrote about here.
