We don’t need to rehash too much here. The Saints needed more from their receiving corps than they got in 2017, Michael Thomas excluded of course, so they drafted Central Florida’s Tre’Quan Smith in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
The obvious take was that he was drafted to be the team’s future opposite Michael Thomas and that Ted Ginn’s days might be numbered. Then Smith came into training camp and started posted daily highlight reel catches. He followed that by leading the team in receiving through preseason.
So, obviously he was going to be the new WR2 to be featured opposite Michael Thomas once the regular season rolled around, right?
