INDIANAPOLIS -- Before the 2016 season began, the New Orleans Saints made a surprising move, entrusting their kicker position to an undrafted rookie that wasn't even with the team during training camp.
A key reason Saints coach Sean Payton was confident in Wil Lutz's ability was because of a recommendation from Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh. Lutz joined the Ravens after going undrafted, but had little shot at replacing incumbent kicker Justin Tucker in Baltimore.
The situation worked out for the Saints as Lutz had a solid rookie season, making 28 of 34 field goals and 49 of 50 extra points.
