METAIRIE, La. -- Steve Gleason shared a statement Sunday on how he felt about witnessing another great blocked punt by the New Orleans Saints against the Atlanta Falcons inside the Superdome.
And as Gleason often does, he mixed some wisdom and wit.
“I loved seeing Michael Mauti block that punt (Thursday) night,” Gleason said. “I believe life is much bigger than sports, but like any great art form, when sports are at their best, they galvanize the community in celebration. (Thursday) night was one of those nights. Joyous.”
Gleason, who has become a renowned ALS advocate since being diagnosed with the disease in 2011, made one of the greatest plays in Saints history when he blocked a punt against the Falcons on the night the Dome reopened after Hurricane Katrina in 2006.
