The New Orleans Saints are engaged in discussions with agent Tom Condon about a potential contract extension for quarterback Drew Brees, a league source told ESPN's Ed Werder.
There has been minimal progress at this point and the two sides have only a few days to complete an agreement since Brees has said he won't negotiate once the season begins.
His $30 million cap figure for this season, the last year of his current contract, is the highest in the NFL. If Brees doesn't sign a new contract, he could become a free agent after the season and it would cost the Saints nearly $43 million to use the franchise tag on him as they've done twice previously.
