New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton made an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show on PodcastOne, reviewing the team’s 2018 draft haul and their plans moving forward. Most notably, he wouldn’t promise that rookie center Erik McCoy would start just by virtue of being the team’s top draft pick.
“Look that’s a fair question,” Payton responded when asked whether McCoy was the clear-cut answer to replace retired center Max Unger. “One of the things we try to do in free agency is not put yourself in that position (to force a rookie to start). We signed Nick Easton, from Minnesota, who started a whole season for them at center and also played guard for them.
