METAIRIE, La. – Sean Payton specified for the first time Thursday that New Orleans Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis’ September surgery was a sports hernia procedure.
Lewis had been listed on the Saints’ injury report with a hip injury since he had the procedure in the final week of the preseason. This week it was listed as both hip and stomach.
Payton said Lewis hasn’t suffered any setbacks in his recovery. But he said the recovery time from such procedures can vary, and Lewis has been "fighting through the soreness, the flexibility, the range of motion.”
Payton said he expects Lewis to do some work in Thursday’s practice after he was absent from Wednesday’s practice and played only eight snaps in last week’s 31-21 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
