It’s not easy for rookies to make an impact on the New Orleans Saints’ squad. It’s certainly difficult for defensive backs who weren’t picked until the last day of the draft; the Saints selected two of them last year, and neither Natrell Jamerson nor Kamrin Moore made the cut on a loaded depth chart. This year, Rutgers safety Saquan Hampton found himself in the exact same position.
But Hampton’s seized the opportunity a little stronger than his predecessors. The rookie has posted two highlight reel-worthy interceptions in his latest two practices, picking off backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and starting passer Drew Brees each in turn.
