The New Orleans Saints finally showed they have what it takes to conquer an NFL draft class in 2017. If they want to continue to upgrade their roster in 2018, they’re going to have to prove it again. New Orleans currently sits with about $31 million of cap space as the new league year approaches, however that is a bit deceiving.
They don’t currently have any base salary allocated to a starting quarterback, as Drew Brees is not currently under contract. His deal, even with a hometown discount, will severely eat into that space. Much of what would be useable space for the Saints is tied up in monies paid in previous years.
