METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints cornerback Delvin Breaux is expected to miss six weeks after having surgery Monday to repair a broken fibula, coach Sean Payton said.
That's a big blow, considering Breaux has established himself as one of New Orleans' top defensive players and since the Saints are extremely thin on experience behind him.
The Saints' other three cornerbacks in Sunday's season opener were all making their NFL debuts -- second-year pro P.J. Williams and undrafted rookies De'Vante Harris and Ken Crawley. That's part of the reason why they allowed 25 points over the final 19 minutes in a crushing 35-34 loss to the Oakland Raiders.
