The NFL has lost several young, budding stars to injuries in the last calendar week. New England Patriots first round pick Isaiah Wynn was projected to start at right tackle but tore his Achilles last night. Washington running back Derrius Guice went down with a torn ACL last week. Sports injuries are largely random, sure, but you can still limit risk to an extent. Especially in a preseason exhibition game.
That’s exactly what the New Orleans Saints should practice with Alvin Kamara. They’re already entering the season without his partner-in-prime time, Mark Ingram. If, god forbid, something happens to Kamara then New Orleans risks trotting out a backfield of (maybe) Jonathan Williams, Boston Scott, and two guys who weren’t on rosters until June (Shane Vereen and Terrance Williams).
