The Saints have had four quarterbacks on their roster for the past two years and it would seem natural that they would get back to that point in the very near future. They’ve only had three on the roster since releasing J.T. Barrett on Aug 1.
Most NFL teams will carry three quarterbacks. That’s a starter, his backup and one on the practice squad. The Saints have been keeping four because Taysom Hill is in the mix. He could play quarterback, but there are the things he does on special teams and the ways in which he’s used in the offense that makes his role very different.
