Saints waive practice squad RB Martez Carter, re-sign J.T. Barrett

The New Orleans Saints waived running back Martez Carter from their practice squad and re-signed rookie quarterback J.T. Barrett, per a report from Nick Underhill of the Advocate.

It’s unclear why the Saints added and released Carter so soon, having just signed him last Wednesday. Maybe they thought he could better simulate Carolina Panthers star Christian McCaffrey on the scout team than anyone else on their practice squad. Carter was initially signed to replace rookie Boston Scott, who was poached by the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the week.

This is the latest return to the Saints for Barrett, who has bounced on and off of the practice squad all season long.
