New Orleans Saints running back C.J. Spiller had some flashes this preseason that looked like he could soon be the electrifying playmaker he used to be for the Buffalo Bills.
Apparently, the Saints don't have the same expectations for Spiller inactive for the season opener Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. The 29-year-old Spiller was a full participant in practice all week, so this appears to be a healthy scratch.
While Spiller sitting out is a surprise, a couple players dealing with injuries will be available as expected. Left tackle Terron Armstead (knee/quad) and wide receiver Michael Thomas (ankle) will start in the game despite some limitations in practice this week.
