NEW ORLEANS – Defensive tackle Nick Fairley might be the most intriguing free agent the New Orleans Saints have considered yet this offseason, though he comes with both a high ceiling and a low floor.
The Saints brought in Fairley for a visit Wednesday and Thursday, a source confirmed.
The 28-year-old has underachieved for much of his five-year career with the Detroit Lions and St. Louis Rams because of inconsistency, injury and weight issues. But he had a nice year as a backup with the Rams last season while keeping that weight down, and his upside as a disruptive inside pass-rusher is still awfully tantalizing.
