The New Orleans Saints agreed to a trade with the Miami Dolphins, using their first selection in the 2019 NFL Draft to pick Texas A&M Aggies center Erik McCoy at No. 48 overall. McCoy was one of the top rated centers in the draft after a strong career at College Station.
This pick makes plenty of sense: the Saints lost longtime center Max Unger to retirement earlier in the offseason, putting free agent signing Nick Easton in the driver’s seat to start. Otherwise, they risked choosing from a handful of former undrafted free agents (Cameron Tom, from Southern Mississippi) or late round draft picks (Will Clapp out of LSU).
