Saints running thin at defensive tackle after Sheldon Rankins, Malcom Brown depart

The hits keep coming to the New Orleans Saints defensive line, which lost former first-round pick Sheldon Rankins to the New York Jets as a free agent pickup. That follows a trade that sent nose tackle Malcom Brown to the Jacksonville Jaguars, to say nothing of the big-money deal defensive end Trey Hendrickson earned with the Cincinnati Bengals.

So who is left? The edge rotation seems set with Cameron Jordan and Marcus Davenport starting on each end and promising backup Carl Granderson stepping into a more prominent role, but that’s a lot of snaps to fill in the interior.
