The New Orleans Saints changed up their offensive line depth chart on Thursday, per reports from Nick Underhill of the Advocate.
According to Underhill’s report, the Saints released backup right tackle Derek Newton and signed free agent offensive lineman Cornelius Lucas. Newton signed with the team on a two-year deal several weeks ago after performing well in a tryout. Lucas worked out for the team alongside three other free agents on Wednesday.
Newton’s story was a comeback tale, having suffered several serious knee injuries while starting for the Houston Texans. Lucas is a young player who had occasional starts for the Detroit Lions while playing in 30-plus games over a few years.
