The New Orleans Saints released defensive lineman John Jenkins, a source confirmed Tuesday. NFL Network first reported the release.
The release comes after first-round drafted rookie defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins made his NFL debut Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Rankins missed the first seven games due to a broken fibula suffered during training camp.
Jenkins, who made one start and saw action in those seven games, was left off the active roster Sunday.
Jenkins came to the Saints as a third-round pick in 2013. He started 12 games in 2015.
