METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints receiver Willie Snead was accepted into a diversion program on June 26, Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office spokesman Paul Purpura said.
That means Snead can avoid charges stemming from a June arrest for driving while intoxicated and failing to maintain proper control of a vehicle. The program is a voluntary alternative to criminal prosecution for first-time offenders accused of misdemeanors or nonviolent felony crimes.
However, Snead will still be suspended for the first three games of the season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. He was originally suspended four games, but that dropped to three after appeal.
