The New Orleans Saints pulled off an upset of the Seattle Seahawks on the road thanks to a tremendous team effort, with punter Thomas Morstead standing out as one of their brightest stars. Morstead boomed six punts for 324 yards, an average of 54 yards per punt, effectively flipping the field and often setting the Seahawks up deep within their own territory.
Four of Morstead’s punts landed inside Seattle’s 20-yard line; three of them forced the Seahawks offense to take over at their own 2-, 4-, and 10-yard lines. That poor starting field position set them up for tough sledding, and helped create a defensive touchdown when Seahawks running back Chris Carson fumbled at his team’s 33-yard line, which Saints safety Vonn Bell recovered and returned for a score.
