The battle for rights to return punts and kickoffs just got interesting for the New Orleans Saints. Veteran returns specialist Marcus Sherels completed his second consecutive practice for the Saints after getting sidelined for nearly three weeks with an undisclosed injury, putting him in the thick of a competition with rookie sensation Deonte Harris.
Sherels, 31, set franchise records with the Minnesota Vikings in punt returns (231), punt return yards (2,447), and punt return touchdowns (5). He was less effective on kickoff returns in his nine years with the team, bringing out just 53 kicks and gaining 1,350 yards.
