The New Orleans Saints will pick up the fifth-year option for defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, per multiple reports. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported the news, which was later confirmed by Luke Johnson of the Times-Picayune and Mike Triplett of ESPN.
This means that Rankins is signed with the Saints through the 2019 and 2020 seasons, putting him on schedule to test free agency in March 2021. He’ll play on a fully-guaranteed salary in each of the next two years, earning $2,195,680 in 2019 and a to-be-determined amount in 2020, his option year.
