The New Orleans Saints had a series of injury scares early in their game against the Carolina Panthers, with the most serious coming down on left tackle Andrus Peat. Peat, who normally lines up at left guard, was only even playing in place of injured backup Jermon Bushrod – who was himself replacing the starter, Terron Armstead.
Peat exited the game after falling on his left warm, walking off the field steadily while favoring his wrist or hand. The Saints later officially announced that he would be questionable to return, with a hand injury. His replacement was veteran offensive tackle Derek Newton, who previously started for the Houston Texans on the right side before a series of knee injuries put his career in danger.
