The New Orleans Saints are awaiting a decision on how much money they potentially owe former starting defensive tackle Nick Fairley. The Auburn product was resigned to a four-year, $28 million contract by the team in the offseason but shortly thereafter he was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list after doctors discovered a heart defect. Fairley sought out several opinions on his enlarged heart, but it was deemed too serious for him to safely resume his playing career. It’s very likely he will never suit up in an NFL game again.
