This isn’t trade deadline news. Former Oakland Raider safety Obi Melifonwu, their second round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and now a free agent after being cut by them on Sunday, will be in New Orleans for a visit with the Saints.
Safety is a need for the Saints as this year’s free agent acquisition, Kurt Coleman, meant to replace Kenny Vaccaro at strong safety, has not looked to pan out the way the Saints had hoped it would. Pro Football Focus currently grades Coleman at average and 67th ranked safety in the league.
