The New Orleans Saints hope Marcus Davenport can one day make history, but one of his relatives has already achieved legendary status in his new home.
Davenport's grandfather, Dr. Artis Davenport, was the longtime men's and women's track and field coach at Southern University at New Orleans and with seven national titles to his name, he was inducted to the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
The Saints drafted Davenport in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday, aggressively trading up from No. 27 to No. 14 to take the defensive end from Texas-San Antonio.
