When Peyton Manning announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, he didn't hesitate to thank his hometown of New Orleans almost immediately into his speech.
It's obvious there's a healthy level of respect on both sides, as the Newman graduate and his family have maintained a presence in the city throughout his entire Hall-of-Fame worthy career.
"I want to thank the people of New Orleans and south Louisiana," Manning said in his retirement press conference. "New Orleans is my hometown and of course they support their own team, the Saints, but they also support their own and that city and state have backed me from the start.
