Just about everything went wrong for the New Orleans Saints in their 27-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
Starting quarterback Drew Brees, the face of the franchise, was sidelined by a thumb injury early in the first quarter. He did not return and it’s too soon to say whether he’ll miss more time, but he visibly struggled to grip a football, suggesting a potentially-serious injury.
In his place, backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater struggled to connect with a thin Saints offense. He was rushed into the game after Brees’ injury and was pressured often by a Rams pass rush that smelled blood in the water, even before left guard Andrus Peat was lost to another injury.
