A return to the NFC West could be in Tim Hightower's future.
Hightower, who spent the past two seasons with the New Orleans Saints, is heading to San Francisco for a free-agent visit with the 49ers on Thursday, according to a source.
ESPN first reported the 49ers hosting Hightower, who is an unrestricted free agent.
The 30-year-old Hightower had 133 carries for 548 yards, a 4.1-yard average, and four touchdowns in 2016 as the primary backup to Mark Ingram. Hightower added 22 catches for 200 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown.
Hightower spent the first three seasons of his career, 2008-10, with the Arizona Cardinals before joining the Washington Redskins in 2011.
