The NFL’s 2018 trade deadline came and passed the New Orleans Saints without much fanfare. And that’s okay: the black and gold made their big move last week, by trading for cornerback Eli Apple.
Apple brought New Orleans everything they wanted out of a cornerback. He’s fast, tall, and aware enough to make something out of nothing. When covering Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs within New Orleans’ red zone, Apple was blindsided by Saints safety Kurt Coleman and fell to the ground. That left Diggs uncovered, and Apple unable to do anything but trip him up, drawing a penalty.
