cornerback Damian Swann missed the start of training camp after failing the team's conditioning test this week, but he didn't have to sit out long.
Swann was back on the field Saturday and participated in the team's first padded practice after the Saints activated him from the non-football injury list.
The other transactions the Saints made Saturday were officially signing veteran offensive lineman Orlando Franklin -- who agreed to a one-year deal Thursday -- and waiving rookie wide receiver Justin Thomas to make room for Franklin.

Thomas was the former quarterback at Georgia Tech, but changed positions when he entered the NFL.
