It was only right that the New Orleans Saints blocked a punt in primetime against the Atlanta Falcons just moments after ALS fighter and Big Easy hero Steve Gleason was presented with the PFWA George Halas Award before kickoff. It’s like it was meant to be.
The blocked punt by Saints linebacker and New Orleans native (Mandeville High School) Michael Mauti brought back heartwarming memories to not only New Orleans, but also to Gleason, whose celebrated blocked punt in 2006 against the Falcons helped kick-start what this franchise has become following the city’s devastation by Hurricane Katrina.
