Rookie receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey picking up Saints playbook

The New Orleans Saints offensive playbook is pretty dense. Head coach Sean Payton has spent the last decade-plus refining it and tweaking it, adding new elements and expanding what others can do. In its current iteration, it’s as complex as any other playbook in the league. That means rookies have a lot of ground to make up in their first days and weeks on the job.

That extends to undrafted wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who left college early after a big year for the Texas Longhorns. The Saints signed him after the 2019 NFL Draft as a rookie free agent, and now he’s working hard to close the gap between himself and longer-tenured teammates like Tre’Quan Smith, Keith Kirkwood, and Cameron Meredith.
