The New Orleans Saints might be getting some reinforcements as they gear up for the start of the regular season. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the Saints are expected to activate defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins from the preseason physically unable to perform (PUP) list, avoiding an eight-week stint on the regular season PUP list.
Saints head coach Sean Payton noted earlier this summer that Rankins’ recovery from Achilles surgery was moving ahead of schedule, though he declined to put a specific date or game in mind for Rankins’ return. Rankins was injured back in January and has been slowly working his way back; in recent works, observers at Saints training camp spotted him doing individual physical rehab work with team athletic trainers.
