It’s early, but this much is certain: New Orleans Saints home games at the Mercedes-Benz Supredome will look very different in 2020. That almost goes without saying amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is what it is.
A report from the Athletic’s Jeff Duncan suggests more details on just what this year’s slate of Saints games may look like. Duncan reported Wednesday that Saints executives met with Louisian Gov. John Bel Edwards and New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell to review attendance procedures, but decision-makers aren’t expected to reach a conclusion for another week or so.
The conflict here is that the state of Louisiana is still within Phase 2 of its COVID-19 reopening plan, which prohibits large gatherings like fans at the Superdome; it will remain in Phase 2 until Aug.
