New Orleans Saints held their first practice of this week's three-day mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, and a handful of players missed the session.
Cornerback P.J. Williams was among the surprise absences because he participated in organized team activities the past three weeks, but coach Sean Payton said Williams was excused because he's sick with the flu.
Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe was also out Tuesday. Payton declined to provide a reason for Ellerbe's absence, but said the linebacker was excused. Ellerbe also missed last Thursday's OTAs session.
Defensive tackle Nick Fairley (heart), center Max Unger (foot) and tight end Josh Hill (fibula/ankle) did not participate Tuesday, remaining sidelined as they did for OTAs.
