Offensive, defensive penalties contribute to Saints' 16-11 loss to Buccaneers

TAMPA, Fla. - Sunday's game between the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wasn't pretty.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees accounted for three interceptions, the game featured a 16-11 score and the teams combined for 20 penalties for 169 yards, with the Saints accounting for a season-high 13 infractions for 104 yards.

The penalties took a toll on the Saints, who were unable to sustain drives and continued to be their worst enemy in another lackluster performance en route to a second consecutive loss.

"I thought the penalties certainly hurt us and I think it really ended up being really the difference," coach Sean Payton said after the game.
