The NFL and NFLPA on Thursday (July 19) released a joint statement regarding the league's national anthem policy.
"No new rules relating to the anthem will be issued or enforced for the next several weeks while these confidential discussions are ongoing," the statement said, as the sides "have come to a standstill agreement" on the policy.
The NFL in May issued a new national anthem policy that called for all players and team personnel on the field to "stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem."
Personnel who choose not to stand during the anthem may stay in the locker room until after the anthem has been performed, the policy states.
