The NFL has slow-played its hand when it comes to gambling on football. For some reason, the league decided that it was best for the shield if the legalization of sports gambling was stifled. Once PASPA was struck down by the Supreme Court, the league still hemmed and hawed about how gambling would affect the game. Then the slow leak started. First, it was through the teams coming to agreements with casino partners — they already had previous deals with DraftKings and FanDuel which was essentially gambling — and then the league struck a deal with Caesars Entertainment as its official gambling partner.
