After evaluating the play of the men on the roster, the New Orleans Saints officially made enough transactions Tuesday to reduce the roster to 74 players, one below the requirement of 75, before the 3 p.m. deadline.
As usual, the first wave of cuts included bad news for rookies and veterans alike. The Saints also made a couple injury-related moves, including placing edge rusher Hau'oli Kikaha on the reserve physically unable to perform list due to the torn ACL he suffered in June.
Even though the Saints have their final preseason game on Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens at the Superdome, coach Sean Payton said having the right roster is the most important thing on the agenda for him, general manager Mickey Loomis, director of pro scouting Terry Fontenot and assistant general manager Jeff Ireland.
