Sunday, December 18th, 2016: New Orleans Saints at Arizona Cardinals, University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Arizona (2:05 p.m. MST)
1. History of the city and team:
For centuries, the farming people known as the Hohokam (The People Who Have Gone) inhabited the area that is modern day Phoenix. They built over 100 miles of canals to irrigate their crops. The Hohokam people disappeared for unknown reasons in the 15th century, although a combination of flooding and droughts are believed to be the culprit.
In 1867, former Confederate soldier Jack Swilling was resting his horse in the White Tank Mountains when he noticed the brown, rock-free soil of the Salt River Valley.
