The New Orleans Saints bolstered their backfield by signing former New England Patriots running back Mike Gillislee, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:
The Saints had an availability in their running back committee after cutting Jonathan Williams on Saturday. With Pro Bowl running back Mark Ingram suspended the first four weeks and two slighter backs in Alvin Kamara and Boston Scott on the roster, they needed someone who could reliably handle tough runs against stacked boxes.
Gillislee probably got on the Saints’ radar after gaining 69 yards and a score on a season-high 18 carries against them last year.
