Saints owner Tom Benson was laid to rest on Friday following a funeral service that could only have happened in the city of New Orleans. Thousands turned out. Former and current Saints, players from the New Orleans Pelicans, which he also owned, politicians, celebrities and fans.
There may never have been an owner in professional sports in this country that meant as much to a city as Tom Benson did to New Orleans. From taking a horrible franchise into the playoffs to keeping them in New Orleans post Hurricane Katrina and ultimately to a Super Bowl, Tom Benson was a New Orleans legend.
