For the most part, when the Saints land a good quarterback, it’s usually been through free agency rather than the draft.
Drew Brees came to the Saints as a free agent in 2006; Aaron Brooks came to the Saints as a free agent, and many other Saints greats such as Jim Everett, Ken Stabler, and Heath Shuler also joined the black and gold through the free-agent pool.
That’s not to say that the team hasn’t used a high-value pick or contract on a quarterback that just didn’t pan out.
The Saints, just like every other team in the NFL, have made mistakes throughout the season, and they certainly haven’t had the same type of dominance they’ve seen in the last decade throughout their entire history.
